Members’ Choice Award – Hertford Art Society Members’ Show – October 2017
This collage was started at an Autumn Workshop. The colours were warm, the reflections in the brass jug an important element. Having taken photographs, I continued in the studio to gradually piece together an image of the gorgeous surfaces and colours of this still life. To add drama I decided to use a black background, with a great variety in the blacks – some subtle patterns and shapes. The reflections were very challenging as the jug needed to have form and stand in front of the metal lantern behind it. The fruits are quinces and the leaves maple. The flowers are my own invention to add interest and balance the colours. The busy foreground leads the eye into the image and adds warm tones.
I am delighted that this collage won the Members’ Choice Award at the Hertford Art Society Member’s Show in October 2017.
